MetaProbe licenses molecular probe technology

Contrast-agent developer MetaProbe of San Diego has obtained an exclusive license to iodinated triglyceride and lipid emulsion technologies developed in the departments of radiology and pharmacology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Applications of the technology will focus on improving the detection, staging, and treatment of hepatobiliary and vascular disorders, according to the firm.

The iodinated triglyceride technology was originally developed to overcome deficiencies in CT imaging of hepatobiliary system disorders. In conjunction with the lipid emulsion delivery system, the iodinated triglyceride specifically localizes and enhances the liver and other biliary anatomy. The company plans to advance the technology in Phase I clinical testing by mid 2004.
