Study backs dual modality of microSPECT/CT

Mayo Clinic researchers say the combined technologies of microSPECT and microCT imaging can accurately quantify intratumoral radioisotope uptake in vivo, and the hybrid technique is more reliable than planar or microSPECT imaging alone.

The findings are published in the Journal of Molecular Imaging and Biology. The researchers used a dual-modality microSPECT/CT in vivo imaging system from gamma camera developer Gamma Medica-Ideas of Northridge, CA.

In vivo imaging is used to collect quantitation data and improve the accuracy of preclinical research. Quantitation is the process by which researchers measure how much of a drug or therapeutic agent is reaching its target.
