Nuclear medicine developer Isotope Products Laboratories is scheduled to begin shipments of a cobalt-57 flood source, Perflexion, the first week of October. The product, designed for use in gamma camera calibration, combines a patent-pending flexible active element and case design with a new tungsten-composite technology called WolfGuard, Isotope said.
The Perflexion flood-source case is the first product with the company’s tungsten composite. This WolfGuard material replaces lead as shielding, optimizing the shielding-to-weight ratio and eliminating the toxicity concerns associated with lead, according to the Valencia, CA-based firm. The flexibility of the material means that the source can be rolled up to store in a lightweight cylindrical shield, it added.
