Israeli gamma camera developer Spectrum Dynamics of Tirat Hacarmel will be at the 2006 RSNA conference in Chicago later this month to demonstrate the capabilities of its D-SPECT nuclear cardiology system.

The product, introduced at this year's SNM conference in San Diego, is a dedicated nuclear cardiology unit that uses a new technology called BroadView to deliver better performance for cardiac imaging than traditional gamma camera designs, according to the company.

The device houses 10 solid-state digital detectors in a crescent-shaped arc, which the firm said allows it to provide sensitivity up to a factor of 10 and a resolution improvement up to a factor of two over conventional gamma cameras.

Spectrum Dynamics said it has a pending 510(k) application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for D-SPECT, and that it hopes to have the device available in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2007, with worldwide availability scheduled for the fourth quarter of next year.
