Medical isotope developer Advanced Medical Isotope (AMIC) of Kennewick, WA, has signed an agreement with Central Radiopharmaceutical Services of Buffalo, NY, for the joint production and marketing of indium-111.
Under the five-year deal, the companies will work together in the production of indium-111, a radioisotope produced from the stable isotope cadmium-112. CRS will provide irradiation facilities, as well as production expertise and chemical synthesis. Initial commercial quantities are expected in the second quarter of 2008.
Indium-111 is used for various nuclear medicine applications, such as imaging colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, and neuroendocrine tumors. It can also be used to radiolabel white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells for diagnostic purposes.
