RSNA 2008: Cab strike fails to materialize at RSNA show

CHICAGO - The 2008 edition of the RSNA show convened today in Chicago, as a threatened strike by Chicago cab drivers failed to materialize in the early afternoon.

Chicago taxi drivers were threatening to call a 24-hour strike starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday as part of a campaign for a 16% fare increase. Cabbies claimed the strike would paralyze the city, but several hours after the strike deadline, plenty of cabs were available outside McCormick Place.

Most RSNA attendees didn't let the threatened strike distract them from radiology's showcase conference. On the opening day of the meeting, U.S. researchers presented a study that found that MRI beats mammography for measuring breast tumor response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. In another presentation, PACS expert Dr. Eliot Siegel gave RSNA attendees an update on the cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG), while researchers from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, reported on the unique appearance of treatment areas on PET/CT scans following radical robotic radiosurgery, available by clicking here.

You'll find these stories and more in our RADCast @ RSNA special section at radcast.auntminnie.com. New this year are video reports from conference attendees, straight from the RSNA show floor.
