The global market for MRI systems will reach $3.5 billion by 2012, according to a recently released report by market research firm InMedica, a division of IMS Research of Wellingborough, U.K.
There is evidence of a trend toward higher field strength devices, but the majority of this growth will be in the economy sections of the market, particularly in refurbished MRI equipment. Not only is the refurbished MRI market growing in established markets, it's also growing in parts of the world with developing healthcare systems such as Eastern Europe and Latin America, InMedica said.
