Vision RT launches 3D product at ASTRO

U.K. radiation therapy developer Vision RT is launching a new system for radiotherapy patient alignment at this week’s American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in Salt Lake City.

AlignRT consists of two sets of 3D cameras in each of the simulation and treatment rooms. The cameras capture a 3D record of patient shape and position, which is recorded during simulation and calibrated to the treatment isocenter.

In the treatment room, the system matches the reference image with an actual real-time image and calculates the optimal patient couch coordinates to ensure that the patient is aligned to the optimal treatment position. Vision RT claims the system can reduce positioning error margins from centimeters to within millimeters.

AlignRT is being tested at two hospitals in the U.K., and is scheduled for launch in that country in March 2004.
