RITA gets Japanese reimbursement nod

Radiation therapy and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) developer RITA Medical Systems of Mountain View, CA, said that the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) has approved and established reimbursement for the treatment of liver cancer with radiofrequency ablation (RFA).

The company said the approval becomes effective on April 1, 2004, and sets reimbursement at 136,000 yen ($1,200 U.S.). The company markets the only MHLW-approved radiofrequency ablation device in Japan, according to RITA Medical.
