Proxima gets FDA OK for new MammoSite

Radiation therapy developer Proxima Therapeutics has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for the next generation of its MammoSite balloon catheter device.

The latest model incorporates new design features, including a thinner catheter shaft and a smaller balloon to deliver partial-breast irradiation to women with early stage breast cancer less invasively, according to the Alpharetta, GA-based firm. Shipments are expected to begin in the fourth quarter.
