Varian launches new linac at ASTRO

Radiation therapy vendor Varian Medical Systems introduced a new linear accelerator at this week's American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) meeting.

Clinac iX is designed to be a modular platform that can be easily installed, customized, and upgraded, according to the Palo Alto, CA, company. It can be configured to support a wide variety of radiation therapy treatment processes, from conventional 2D and 3D treatments to intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT).

Clinac iX features a new ergonomically designed command center for controlling radiation therapy studies. The company has consolidated the system's electronics, making installation and maintenance easier, according to the firm.
