Swedish oncology firm Elekta has announced a contract to install seven of its radiation therapy systems in Russia as part of the new Russian National Oncology Program.
The program has the goal of improving prevention and early detection of cancer in the country. To that end, Russia has issued a contract to Elekta to install four Synergy units, two Precise Treatment systems, and one Axesse system at Russian hospitals and cancer centers, according to the Stockholm-based firm.
Currently, patients in Russia are diagnosed with cancer primarily in stages III and IV, which not only negatively impacts survival, but requires expensive treatment and medication.
