SonoSite revenues up, losses down for Q1

Handheld-ultrasound developer SonoSite reported first-quarter revenues of $17.2 million, up 33.6% compared with $12.8 million in the same period last year. For the quarter (end-March 31), the Bothell, WA-based vendor had a net loss of $2.6 million, compared with a net loss of $3.7 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2002.

The firm reported an increase in gross margins for its ninth consecutive quarter, to 62.9%, compared with 58% in the first quarter of 2002, and 60.3% in the fourth quarter of 2002. Gross margins rose as a result of a stronger mix from direct sales and advanced product configurations, according to the company.
