Sensant touts silicon ultrasound gains

Ultrasound technology developer Sensant presented research that showed improvements in ultrasound beam focusing and advances in broadband curved arrays earlier this month at the 2003 IEE International Ultrasonics Symposium. Sensant senior manager Dr. Chris Daft presented a paper describing Sensant’s recent in vivo research using curved silicon arrays.

The paper outlined the technology’s ability to improve ultrasound beam elevation focus, image slice thickness, and depth of penetration without the use of a silicon lens or a concomitant increase in system complexity, according to the San Leandro, CA-based vendor. Sensant also presented its first abdominal images captured using a convex silicon ultrasound array made by bending silicon thinned to the width of human hair.
