Ultrasound vendor Siemens Medical Solutions of Malvern, PA, is introducing a new image and patient data management system for entry-level digital echocardiography at this week's American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) meeting in San Diego.
The system, called Image-Arena, is designed for image acquisition, review, measurement, reporting and archiving of echocardiography data. The product is targeted to smaller hospitals and office-based practices, and includes features for digital image management, offline measurements, and reporting. Image-Arena supports the company's Acuson Sequoia C512 and C256 scanners, and Acuson CV70 and Cypress cardiovascular units.
Another new Siemens echocardiography product is Acuson AcuNav 8F, an 8-French version of the company's existing 10-French AcuNav catheter. Shown at the ASE as a work-in-progress, AcuNav 8F will be used for the visualization of vascular and cardiac anatomy and physiology, the measurement of blood flow, and visualization of devices throughout the entire heart.
The catheter is 33% smaller in the cross-sectional area than the 10-F model, which is a benefit for applications such as the closure of atrial septal defects (ASD) on smaller patients, and left heart applications for both interventional cardiology and electrophysiology.
Siemens is also highlighting 3D capabilities on the AcuNav line. Three-dimensional imaging enables better visualization of intracardiac devices in the heart, which could lead to reduced procedure time. The 3D capability will also be available on the company's V5M transesophageal (TEE) transducer.
