
Ultrasonix Medical of Burnaby, British Columbia, will cross the border and bring three new ultrasound systems -- Sonix SP, Sonix RP, and Sonix OP -- to Chicago.

Ultrasonix's Simplicit user interface, 3D and 4D imaging capabilities, and harmonic imaging are a few of the key features on Sonix SP. The company considers the system most applicable for the ob/gyn market, as well as breast surgery and vascular and abdominal imaging.
Sonix RP was designed for investigational use at research institutions and academic centers. It lists tissue harmonic imaging, real-time spatial compounding, panoramic imaging, harmonic imaging, and Ultrasonix's Clarity adaptive image adjustment technology among its features. Sonix RP is 3D- and 4D-capable and DICOM 3.0-compliant, with an integrated CD/DVD-R drive and two USB ports.
Sonix OP is intended for abdominal, ob/gyn, small parts, prostate, and breast imaging. Along with tissue harmonic imaging, panoramic imaging, and Clarity, Sonix OP offers a Q Sonix quick exam wizard and 3D capability. Ultrasonix is marketing the system for private practices.

Undifferentiated spindle cell sarcoma was diagnosed at biopsy, with residual leiomyosarcoma in the surgical specimen after neoadjuvant therapy. The mass is heterogeneous at both B-mode ultrasound (similar to patient A) and MRI (coronal T2-weighted spectral attenuated inversion recovery [SPAIR]; T1-weighted pre-contrast and postcontrast imaging), which even shows uptake after the administration of paramagnetic contrast material, which is traditionally suggestive of malignancy. Low values at SMI and elastography are suggestive of benignity.
