GE Healthcare has introduced its Compact series of ultrasound systems.
The new laptop-sized systems include Voluson i and Logiq i. Voluson i is designed for obstetrics and gynecology applications, while Logiq i is targeted at general imaging needs, according to the Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based vendor.
Other Compact offerings include Logiq e, suitable for emergency and surgical settings, and Vivid e, a dedicated cardiac ultrasound imaging system for physician offices.
Voluson i, Logiq e, and Vivid e have received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance and will be released commercially in the U.S. in June, GE said. Logiq i, which has also received FDA clearance, is scheduled for release in September.
With the new units, GE said it expects to double its compact ultrasound business, delivering more than 5,000 of its Vivid, Logiq, and Voluson systems worldwide in 2006.
