Dear Ultrasound Insider,
Automatic fetal biometry measurement software offers a number of potential benefits, including reducing repetitive stress injuries for sonographers, improving workflow, and decreasing interuser variability.
One such automated system was found to have comparable performance to measurements produced by experienced sonographers, according to University of Hawaii research presented at last week's American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) meeting in San Diego.

Be sure to check out our other coverage from the AIUM meeting, including an article on how 3D ultrasound can make life easier for sonographers -- and save money in the process. For that story, click here.
In addition, other research from the University of Hawaii found that a handheld ultrasound system can perform suitably in some limited ob/gyn indications. You can find that story here.
Finally, we report on recent research that found that substituting ultrasound for MRI in musculoskeletal imaging could save billions of dollars within the U.S. healthcare system.
