Dear Ultrasound Insider,
While operative hysteroscopy is a gold standard for diagnosing and treating endometrial pathology, the technique has the drawback of requiring conscious sedation or general anesthesia. Sonohysterography, however, can be performed in an outpatient setting, is more comfortable for patients, and costs less.
The method, when used with endometrial biopsy, could be an acceptable alternative to hysteroscopy, according to research presented at the recent annual convention of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) in San Diego.
