GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., launched several new technologies for its Voluson i and Voluson e ultrasound scanners at this week's International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) meeting in Chicago.
GE's SonoVCADlabor software measures fetal head direction, rotation, and progression in the second stage of labor and is available only on the company's Voluson i compact ultrasound product. GE said the software is ideal for labor and delivery wards dealing with high-risk pregnancies and for teaching hospitals where doctors, nurses, or midwives need additional clinical information.
Another new software enhancement is SonoVCADheart, which streamlines the acquisition of volumetric images of the fetal heart. The technology displays all of the 2D planes, in accordance with guidelines covering standardized fetal heart screening exams.
Finally, SonoAVCfollicle is a method for calculating the number and volume of ovarian follicles, which is used in assisted reproductive medicine because each fluid-filled follicle contains hormone producing cells and a maturing ovum (egg).
