Sonora issues software warning

Imaging equipment supplier Sonora Medical Systems is warning hospitals that at least one third-party ultrasound service company has illegally modified its FirstCall probe testing software.

The software was modified in an attempt to test probe models that have never been validated by the Sonora engineering department, according to the Longmont, CO-based firm. As a result, these software modifications may cause significant damage to the probes being tested, with the hospital then being told that the probes need to be replaced, Sonora said.

Hospitals should not allow third parties to test their probes with a FirstCall device, unless the third party has a Sonora certificate that validates the software they are using, as well as a current calibration system on the device itself, Sonora said.
