Chinese ultrasound market poised for growth

The Chinese market for ultrasound imaging equipment will grow over a third in the next four years, according to a recently released report by market research firm InMedica, a division of IMS Research of Wellingborough, U.K.

The Chinese market will increase by 35% from 2008 to 2012, reaching $620 million in annual sales, the report said. This growth will come from color scanners replacing black and white units. Color equipment is expected to increase from 14.5% of the total ultrasound equipment shipments in China in 2007 to 43% in 2012.

Demand for ultrasound imaging equipment will be centered in China's large cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, according to InMedica.
