Qure.ai has received a grant from the Gates Foundation to develop a large open-source multimodal database and AI-powered point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) technologies.
The multimillion-dollar grant, which brings total funding to nearly $8.2 million, will support lung-health diagnostic pathways developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The company also aims to improve data collection of nonidentifiable clinical history, medical images, cough/lung recordings, and laboratory or biological markers to allow researchers and innovators to develop, validate, and refine new AI models.
With the grant, Qure.ai is also developing AI-powered POCUS for the early detection of tuberculosis and pneumonia. Company leaders say this technology can reduce diagnosis rates from 14 days to one-to-two days and has assisted in rural regions in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.
