The American Medical Association (AMA) Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel has approved a new category III code for 3D quantitative transmission volumetric ultrasound tomography of the breast, according to QT Imaging Holdings.
"Acceptance of a Category III code signals acknowledgment by the CPT Editorial Panel that a technology represents a distinct and reportable clinical service and is a major step on the pathway toward broader reimbursement and adoption," the company said.
The code, X579T, will be released on July 1 and will take effect January 1, 2027. It will cover standardized reporting and billing for hospital radiology departments and can be used with its radiation- and compression-free 3D breast imaging platform, which improves imaging of dense breast tissue and enhances patient comfort, according to the firm.
