GE HealthCare (GEHC) is introducing two AI-based capabilities for its Vscan Air handheld ultrasound system: Lung Guidance, which helps clinicians acquire lung ultrasound images, and AutoAS, which assesses for moderate-to-severe aortic stenosis.
Lung Guidance provides real-time guidance to correct anatomical landmarks across the standard eight-zone lung protocol, automatically captures clips when image-quality criteria are met, and supports B-line detection and scoring, according to the vendor. In validation testing, nonexpert users acquired diagnostic-quality exams 95.2% of the time, compared with 96.8% for expert users, GEHC said.
AutoAS analyzes at least two standard 2D echocardiographic views acquired with Vscan Air SL and indicates whether findings suggest moderate-to-severe aortic stenosis, along with a confidence score.
Both tools have received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance and carry the CE Mark. Existing Vscan Air customers with a valid Innovation Package subscription or license are expected to receive the updates by the end of November, GEHC said.
