Fujifilm Medical Systems USA parent company Fuji Photo Film is readying introduction of FCR-M, a computed radiography mammography reader. FCR-M employs a four-cassette stacker that allows for processing of up to 20 screening mammography exams per hour from as many as four exam rooms, according to the Stamford, CT-based vendor.
The reader can also read conventional imaging plates used for general radiography studies at a rate of more than 100 per hour, Fuji said. This allows customers to avoid the cost of purchasing separate mammography and general CR readers, according to the vendor.
A dual-side mammography reading capability allows for simultaneous reading of both sides of the plate, offering 100% higher detective quantum efficiency (DQE) and lower noise compared with conventional film-based mammography, Fujifilm said. FCR-M's spatial resolution sampling is 50 microns for both 18 x 24 and 24 x 30-inch cassettes.
Fujifilm expects to release FCR-M worldwide in the second half of 2003, and in the U.S. upon regulatory approval.
