Mammography and digital x-ray provider Hologic reported fiscal second-quarter revenues of $50.4 million, up 8% from the $46.4 million booked in the same quarter last year. For the period (end-March 29), the Bedford, MA-based vendor had net income of $383,000, compared with net income of $4.4 million in the second quarter of 2002 (which included a tax refund of $4.4 million).
In quarterly highlights, Hologic said it shipped a record 14 Selenia full-field digital mammography (FFDM) units, and as of the end of March had an order backlog of 40 systems. Chairman and CEO Jack Cumming also reported success with the firm's strategy of converting to direct sales for analog mammography systems in over 25 major markets, with orders surpassing results from the previous quarter.
