The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Mammography Quality Standards Reauthorization Act of 2004 (H.R. 4555) last week. The Senate introduced and passed the bill in February.
The amended version of the MQSA contains information on a temporary renewal certificate. This certificate grants a facility that is already accredited, and is seeking reaccreditation, a 45-day extension depending on specific circumstances.
This version of the MQSA also allows for a limited provisional certificate granted to a facility that is conducting exams for educational purposes during an onsite accreditation visit, the government said.
Finally, the national advisory committee will be made up of four individuals from a national breast cancer and/or consumer health organization with expertise in mammography, two industry/equipment representatives, and two practicing physicians who provide mammography services.
