Siemens Healthcare

(Booth 922) Multimodality vendor Siemens Healthcare of Malvern, PA, will promote a range of computer-aided detection (CAD) applications in its syngo line of software covering multiple clinical indications.

syngo Lung CAD is designed for analyzing solid pulmonary nodules in thoracic CT studies. The application is intended to perform as a second reader to aid in the interpretation of CT datasets that can contain hundreds of images.

syngo Lung CAD is available on Siemens' syngo MultiModality Workplace (MMWP) for use with the vendor's syngo CT Oncology software suite. syngo Lung CAD can also be integrated to enable CAD results to be displayed on Siemens PACS workstations.

Another application, syngo PE Detection, is a second-reader tool to help detect segmental and subsegmental filling defects in CT angiography (CTA) studies of the thorax. The application is integrated with Siemens' syngo Circulation software, enabling an efficient reading and reporting process, according to the company. The software is not yet available on the U.S. market.

In digital radiography, Siemens will show syngo CXR CAD, an application for detecting lung nodules in digital chest x-ray studies. syngo CXR CAD processes posterior-anterior (PA) images and is optimized for detecting lung nodules 8-30 mm in size. The software is validated for use with images from the Siemens Axiom Aristos digital radiography system, and results can be displayed on PACS workstations. The software is not yet available in the U.S.

Finally, syngo MammoCAD is CAD software for full-field digital mammography (FFDM), marking suspicious areas such as masses and microcalcifications. Siemens states that with syngo MammoCAD, up to 40% of normal cases show no false-positive CAD marks, saving the radiologist interpretation time during the second-read phase.

syngo MammoCAD works in combination with the company's syngo MammoReport workstation, and additional features include breast density analysis, customized display of CAD markers, and the number of calcifications in a cluster. The software is not yet available on the U.S. market.
