A Cuba-born man who practiced as a radiologist in Paraguay has become the first COVID-19 death in Florida's Miami-Dade county, according to a report published March 27 in the Miami Herald.
Israel Carrera, 40, died March 26 in North Miami, where he lived with his husband, Christian López. Carrera was born in Cuba and practiced as a radiologist in Paraguay before he moved to Miami in 2016, according to the Herald. At the time of his death, he was not employed as a radiologist but as a driver for Uber and Lyft.
Carrera had attended the Miami Beach Winter Party Festival, which was held March 4 through 10. At least nine people who attended tested positive for COVID-19, the Herald reported.
