Three-dimensional-technology developer Actuality Systems has received a $1.7 million grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for research to commercialize a low-cost 3-D scalable holographic video system.
The grant will enable the company to extend its Perspecta hardware and software technology to develop low-cost, mass-market 3-D "holovideo" systems, according to the Burlington, MA, company.
Perspecta consists of a 360º spatial display and associated software that enables users to render high-resolution images that can be viewed from any angle as the user moves around the display. The technology can be used for viewing CT, PET, and MR data.
