iRad released for Mac

An open-source radiology DICOM image viewing application designed for the Macintosh operating system has been released.

iRad 1.6.4 is available at http://irad.sourceforge.net. The application is G4 and G5 optimized and uses OpenGL for fast image display. The software can perform distance, point, and region-of-interest measurements and has oval, rectangular, and polygon selection tools.

Images can be exported as JPEG, TIFF, JPEG2000, BMP, or Photoshop file formats. Image stacks can also be exported as QuickTime movies. Additional features include the capability to burn DICOM CDs and DVDs.

The application has been localized with German, French, Italian, Swedish, and Icelandic versions along with English. The software has neither been tested nor approved for clinical use by the Food and Drug Administration or any other regulatory organization, according to the software's developers.
