Dutch software firm Medis of Leiden has signed an agreement with contract research organization Halifax Biomedical of Mabou, Nova Scotia, to make the Medis Model-based RSA software available to Halifax customers.
Model-based RSA is a software application for radiostereometric analysis (RSA), which involves monitoring orthopedic implants. RSA replaces the traditional process of applying markers to bone and total joint replacements of interest to monitor relative changes in position over time (also known as micromotion). It enables orthopedic researchers to assess the micromotion of total joint replacements without the need to attach markers.
Under the new relationship, Halifax will offer Model-based RSA to sites conducting orthopedic clinical trials involving RSA. Medis and Halifax have also worked together to develop a direct digital radiology suite (RSA suite) that will make it easier for researchers to conduct RSA.
Medis will demonstrate the software at next week's American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) meeting in San Francisco.
