Teleradiology services provider Nines has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for NinesAI, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based software application for triage of two indications on head CT exams.

Specifically, NinesAI provides automated review of head CT exams for intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and mass effect, according to the vendor. NinesAI is the first computer-aided triage algorithm to receive FDA clearance for mass effect and the first to receive simultaneous clearance for multiple indications.

The company said that NinesAI will be available for free for all current clients and new customers who sign up with Nines before June 30. As a result, the customers will be able to assess, identify, and triage emergent conditions of ICH and mass effect while in-house radiology departments are inundated with diagnostics, Nines said.

Radiologists using NinesAI can be notified of a potential life-threatening finding approximately 15 seconds after the scan is completed, according to the firm.
