Dear Healthcare IT Insider,
The landscape of healthcare IT may soon be changing. The $4.2 billion information technology firm Harris has cemented the foundation of its four diverse divisions to expand its Healthcare Solutions business.
Harris has contributed to U.S. government-related IT through administrative and daily support for entities such as the National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health. Now the company wants to carry some of those technologies into radiology and radiation oncology.
With some 7,000 engineers and scientists, Harris could become a major influence in the hospital IT market. Read more about the company's plans in the Healthcare IT Insider Exclusive.
Also in this edition of the Healthcare IT Insider, read how natural language processing technology can accurately describe trends from different pathology findings in neuroradiology reports and determine additional recommended imaging tests.
One benefit of the Internet is its fingertip access to an infinite amount of information. But the huge volumes of data that can be found on the Internet can also be a curse, especially for radiologists searching for specific results. Read how one radiologist from the Cleveland Clinic has created a search engine to save his colleagues and other clinicians time, and direct them to more relevant information.
As always, please feel free to drop me a line about any healthcare IT topics you would like to see covered in the Healthcare IT Digital Community. Also, watch for our coverage of the 2008 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting in Orlando, FL, later this month.
