Emdeon buys GE's patient statement unit

Healthcare services and information technology developer Emdeon of Nashville, TN, has acquired GE Healthcare's patient statement business.

The unit currently serves more than 400 hospitals and physician groups, providing delivery of correspondence such as statements, invoices, claims, and appointment reminders for patients.

Emdeon said the acquisition also strengthens its position as a preferred vendor partner for GE Healthcare's IT business. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The transaction is GE's third deal in two days. The Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based company on September 30 announced that it had acquired MicroCal, a provider of instruments for the study of molecular interactions in pharmaceutical, biomedical, and life science research, and Agility Healthcare Solutions of Glen Allen, VA. Agility specializes in hospital workflow and patient care management products.
