AuntMinnie.com PACS Radiology Insider

Dear PACS Insider,

Large-scale PACS implementation in the United Kingdom is about to take a giant leap forward. As part of a $10.6 billion National Programme for IT initiative, the U.K. Department of Health aims to convert all 178 of its acute trusts to PACS by the end of 2007. Today, only 25 have digital image management.

Implementation under the initiative is expected to begin this summer, with 80% of the sites to be brought online within two years. The scope of the new PACS networks will be broad, creating a community-wide image management system across multiple sites and trusts, a spokesperson for the National Programme for IT initiative told AuntMinnie.com.
