Put PACS before FFDM, expert advises

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Full-field digital mammography (FFDM) is becoming an option for an increasing number of imaging facilities attracted by its workflow efficiencies and image distribution potential. But buying an FFDM unit before you have experience in managing and distributing digital images with a PACS could be a mistake.

So says a radiologist from Santa Barbara, CA, who has successfully made the transition to both PACS and FFDM imaging at his facility. Read all about the group's experience in an article by staff writer Shalmali Pal that we're featuring in our PACS Digital Community.

Imaging facilities will probably see greater productivity gains by moving digital modalities like CT and MRI to PACS before mammography. That said, FFDM also confers benefits in areas like room productivity, faster report turnaround, and better patient care.

But FFDM also has its drawbacks, according to the article. Find out about them in our PACS Digital Community, at pacs.auntminnie.com.
