Dear PACS Insider,
Attendees had a multitude of PACS offerings to browse on the exhibit floor at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting last month. But if you made the trip to Orlando to take in some PACS educational sessions, you may have been disappointed.
Only three PACS-related talks were given, two of which were given by vendors. The third talk was about a specific product. With IT taking on a bigger role in PACS today, this lack of educational opportunities for the IT community could be a problem, according to PACS consultant Michael J. Cannavo.
His take on the PACS presence at the HIMSS show is the subject of this month's Insider Exclusive article. As a PACS Insider, you have access to the article before it is published for the rest of our AuntMinnie.com members. To learn more, click here.
In other articles we're featuring this month in the PACS Digital Community, Cannavo shares his thoughts on the state of the PACS market in 2008. In addition, Dr. Khan Siddiqui from the VA Maryland Healthcare System in Baltimore discussed the importance of using informatics to meet communications challenges in a recent presentation. You can find our coverage of that talk here.
Also, another recent study found that personal digital assistants (PDAs) fared well when compared with a diagnostic workstation for reporting the presence of acute intracranial hemorrhage. For that article, click here.
