PARCA goes nonprofit, continues certifications

The PACS Administrators Registry and Certification Association (PARCA) of Dallas is expanding internationally and will continue to certify medical informatics professionals.

To advance its international strategy, PARCA will become a 501(c)-3 nonprofit corporation on January 1, 2009.

PARCA noted that its decision to go nonprofit is due in part to its unsuccessful merger attempt with the American Board of Imaging and Informatics (ABII), which administers the Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) program.

PARCA said that if the merger had taken place, the new entity would not have recognized the qualifications of PARCA-certified healthcare professionals. The association advocates the authority of an international certification entity, which would allow for more mobility among IT and PACS professionals.
