RSNA foundation awards inaugural seed grant

The RSNA Research and Education Foundation has awarded its first Strategic Radiology/RSNA Research Seed Grant to Dr. Sina Tavakoli, PhD, of the University of Pittsburgh.

The grant, made possible by the support of radiology consortium Strategic Radiology, provides $40,000 for a one-year project to test hypotheses and obtain pilot data in preparation for major grant applications, according to the RSNA.

In his project, Tavakoli will investigate the role of quantitative F-18 fluoroglutamine PET for noninvasive metabolic imaging of macrophages in atherosclerosis. This approach could help characterize the immunometabolic features of atherosclerotic lesions and eventually lead to more accurate identification of vulnerable plaques, the society said.
