Dear Business & Industry Insider,
You've heard about single-modality imaging vendors, but how about a new company dedicated to a single clinical application?
Start-up enterprise Neurognostics is just such a firm. The Milwaukee company sees a promising market in offering products and services based on functional MRI, and we describe their efforts in this issue's Insider Exclusive article.
Functional MRI is showing promise as a technique for imaging the impact of various neurological disorders on brain metabolism. Clinicians are finding the technology useful for assessing a wide range of central nervous system disorders, such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and multiple sclerosis.
But Neurognostics believes that fMRI's potential as a clinical tool is being held back by the complexity of the technique and the lack of standardization for interpreting fMRI exams. They've put together a knowledge base of fMRI studies that could serve as a road map for clinicians at hospitals and imaging centers to conduct fMRI studies -- effectively taking the technology out of the research lab and into community practice.
