Net sales at Agfa HealthCare declined 9% in the third quarter (end-September 30), as healthcare facilities postponed purchases and the economic slowdown adversely affected results.
The business unit of Agfa-Gevaert of Mortsel, Belgium, posted net sales of 291 million euros ($378.3 million U.S.) in the third quarter, compared with 319 million euros ($414.7 million U.S.) in the third quarter of 2007.
Agfa HealthCare's bottom line was hurt by high silver costs, as approximately half of the business unit's sales still comes from film products.
For the nine-month period, net sales decreased 12% to 898 million euros ($1.17 billion U.S.), compared with 1.02 billion euros ($1.33 billion U.S.) in the same period of 2007.
