Philips Healthcare cuts jobs by 5%

Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, this week reduced its global workforce by 5%.

A report today on boston.com said the layoffs total approximately 1,600 jobs worldwide and include fewer than 100 positions at Philips Healthcare's headquarters in Andover.

The report cited a Philips spokesman as saying the reduction was needed to streamline management and make the company more responsive to its customers.

Philips has approximately 3,000 people in the healthcare unit in Massachusetts and approximately 35,000 workers worldwide. Workers who are laid off will be offered severance packages.
