Dear Imaging Leaders Insider,
What can radiology learn from Netflix? Researchers from NYU Langone Health found that an exam scheduling app they developed that recommended appointment times in a way that is similar to how Netflix recommends new shows led to a significant increase in the number of studies that were successfully scheduled on the institution's mobile app.
Our coverage of their work is the subject of this edition's Insider Exclusive.
In other news, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released its proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) earlier in July. Sandy Coffta of Healthcare Administrative Partners (HAP USA) assessed the impact of the MPFS on radiology in a new column.
We've also got plenty of coverage of practice management topics for you from ECR 2022 as well as the AHRA annual meeting. For example, a pair of presentations in Vienna shared how the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed significantly to burnout among radiographers and sonographers. Another session took a close look at how COVID-19 affected screening for colorectal and breast cancer in Europe.
But there was some good news. The increased use of chest CT during the pandemic does not appear to have increased radiation exposure for either sonographers or patients. And how frequently are interpretation errors made on radiology exams? Likely around 4% of the time, according to a talk at ECR 2022.
We also have a nice collection of articles from AHRA 2022, including coverage of presentations on improving the patient experience, getting new imaging leaders up to speed on IT, building resilience in your radiology practice, enhancing neuroimaging with artificial intelligence (AI), and improving the retention of radiologic technologists.
AuntMinnie.com Editor-in-Chief Brian Casey also conducted video interviews with Dr. Emanuel Kanal on MRI contrast relaxivity, Mark Lerner on radiology quality improvement, Dr. Lawrence Tanenbaum on AI for MRI, Rebecca Farrington on radiology regulatory changes, and Jason Newmark on asset management.
A safety checklist to wrap up an image-guided procedure can significantly reduce the number of adverse events and the need for repeat procedures. Also, Erin Stephens at HAP USA describes how imaging practices can utilize video radiology reports to help grow revenue.
Finally, a recent AuntMinnie.com webinar explored the job market for radiologists.
