Survey respondents prefer RSNA date switch

Chicago in July is a far better proposition than the Windy City in November, according to respondents to an AuntMinnie.com survey on whether to switch the date of the Radiological Society of North America meeting. A plurality of respondents said they would prefer to keep the meeting in Chicago, but move it to the summer.

Some 49% of AuntMinnie members who took the survey said they would rather hold the meeting in the last week of July, while 22% said the middle of November was preferable. About 16% said the last week of November (the current date) was their preferred choice, while 13% said they preferred the second week of December. What is not known is how many of those advocating a summer meeting have ever been to Chicago in July.

A plurality of 49% said they preferred to keep the meeting in Chicago, while 37% would like to see it moved it to a new city and 14% had no opinion. Some 51% said the conference should rotate from city to city, while 49% said it should stay put in a single location. Of the alternate cities, Orlando was by far the top choice, followed by Las Vegas and New York City.

The current Sunday-to-Friday schedule was preferred by 77% of respondents. Some 57% of the respondents said they attended the RSNA show every year, while 62% said they were not members of the Oak Brook, IL, association.

The survey questions roughly paralleled those of a survey the RSNA launched in May querying its members on their preferences for a new format for the annual conference. The RSNA plans to collect the results of that survey and forward them to its board of directors for discussion at either its September or December meeting.

The RSNA said that in the event a decision to move the meeting is approved, the earliest date a switch could be implemented would be 2007.
