Penn. radiologist pleads guilty to sexual exploitation charge

Lawsuit

A former vice chair of radiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has pled guilty to violating a federal law regarding the sexual exploitation of children, according to a statement by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Pennsylvania.

Ashok Panigrahy, 53, a resident of both Pittsburgh, PA, and Chicago, was indicted last year on charges that he transported and attempted to transport material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor.

The law provides for a total sentence of not more than 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000.00, or both, said acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti. Panigrahy’s sentencing has been scheduled for July 17.
