Aetna will begin covering Cleerly's Cleerly LABS plaque analysis software, reflecting growing support among payors for the use of quantitative coronary tomography (AI-QCT)/coronary plaque analysis (AI-CPA) in the diagnostic evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD).
According to Cleerly, Aetna now joins UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Humana in covering the AI-powered cardiovascular imaging analysis tool, following Medicare's 2024 coverage decision and the technology's approval for a Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) I code effective January 1, 2026.
Cleerly LABS is an interactive analysis software that uses AI/ML-based advanced plaque analysis to identify, characterize, and quantify coronary artery plaque and stenosis, according to Cleerly. It is designed to support visualization and measurement of coronary arteries in patients with known or suspected CAD.
