E-Z-EM reported fiscal second-quarter net sales of $30.6 million, up 14.6% compared with the $26.7 million last year. In the quarter (end-December 1), the Westbury, NY-based firm had a net loss, including restructuring charges, of $1.2 million, compared with net earnings of $861,000 in the same period last year.
Without the charges, E-Z-EM would have had net earnings of $365,000. The $1.5 million charge related to the firm's decision to close its Japanese manufacturing facility in December to focus on sales of contrast systems manufactured in the U.S, according to E-Z-EM.
