Toshiba Medical Systems of Otawara, Japan, will debut a new 160-slice MDCT scanner, Aquilion Prime, at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna next month.
Aquilion Prime is the next-generation standard in the company's premium-class MDCT scanners. It is targeted at a wide variety of routine clinical examinations and advanced applications.
New product features include the introduction of Toshiba's version of iterative reconstruction, called adaptive iterative dose reduction (AIDR). AIDR reduces noise levels by up to 50% and patient radiation dose by up to 75% compared to conventional scanners, according to the company.
Aquilion Prime also comes standard with Toshiba's Active Collimator technology, in which the scanner's collimator is used to minimize the effects of helical over-ranging and reduce patient exposure by blocking excess exposure at the beginning and end of helical exams. Active Collimator is available in all helical protocols on the scanner to eliminate exposure that is not used for diagnosis.
Aquilion Prime also features a new Quantum detector, gantry rotation speed of 0.35 seconds, and a new eVolution gantry that features a 780-mm-wide bore that is 60 mm larger than its predecessor. The wider bore is designed to enhance patient access and positioning, especially for critically ill patients and for interventional procedures.
